Liam Benson

Liam Benson is a performance artist who documents his work through photography, video and new media. Benson’s work deconstructs the social perceptions of gender, race, culture, sexuality and identity by cross-referencing art, popular culture and media language. His work explores the evolution of social archetypes and celebrates the possibilities within the cross influence of socially entrenched identities and cultural and sub-cultural amalgamation.

Benson's current body of work focuses on the existing redefinition of masculinity and the Australian identity. His subversive interpretation of gender and Australian iconography asks what our expectations are of a common nationality and what it takes to be a man. Liam Benson has been exhibiting and performing since 2002 and has worked in collaboration with Naomi Oliver as the performance based duo, The Motel Sisters since 2004. Bensons works are held in significant public and private collections and he was recently awarded the Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award and the Contemporary Award category of the Fishers Ghost Art Award. Geraldine also educates the consumer on new ways of seeing the simple things around them. What is the Prospector Store? The meaning of the word “prospect” is essentially to have a view or an outlook to be looking forward with anticipation and expectation. To be a “prospector” is to be the person in charge of searching and exploring for that hidden gold out there.
The Prospector Store wants you to be both the prospect and the prospector. We want you to find the hidden gold within the collection. The person behind the Prospector Store has carefully curated a selection of things from here and around the world.
